Good Night Moon

Sander will be very unhappy with the news that Obama is killing the NASA program to go to the moon.   We've spent countless hours watching videos on the Constellation program and how we will take rockets and capsules to the moon.   We need to make sure we invest enough in this that way Sander can become an astronaut when he grows up.  He loves what he calls "Space Adventures".

Baby O is One

Thinking about how much has changed in Olin’s life in his short year is almost daunting. He is an interactive, crawling/cruising, investigative, talkative (he has one setting; loud), hungry, little guy. Current interests include, playing with anything his big brother has, pushing any object around the house (including but not limited to stools, garbage cans, shoes, laundry baskets and his actual toys meant for pushing), waving, climbing stairs and exploring.

Today I also can’t help thinking about the day O was born. Started out like any normal day when being over 41 weeks pregnant, uncomfortable and with doctor appointments and test. As of 8 am no progress, no labor, and a short 12 hours later O decided to appear. The day included; a walk to the park with my Mama friends to “labor park”, where I decided that perhaps I should drive Sander and I home before I couldn’t drive anymore; a phone call to Sander’s potential preschool in between contractions; our dear friend Justin who came to watch Sander, which allowed me to get my epidural an hour early; and a quick delivery.

O started the morning off with one of his favorite foods, pancakes made by Dad. We sang “Happy Birthday” to him and Sander helped him blow out his candle. He then ate 4.5 pancakes. That’s our O! Who knows what the rest of the day has in store for us. Big birthday celebration is this weekend when Gran and Papa D arrive. Here are some pictures from O’s year!

O eating the last of his birthday pancakes.

Peaceful O at one month.

Two cute brothers.

All smiles.

Rain vs Snow

Every time I am out in the rain the same thing plays in my head, is this better or worse than living someplace where it snows? While walking to this mornings preschool drop off, pushing a stroller one handed, holding an umbrella over O in the backpack, with the wind pulling at the umbrella, I thought snow, that would be better.

Snow would just mean that I would have to bundle us up. I could use both hands to push the stroller, no walking (or wading) through puddles, no wet jeans below the knees, no instantly wet pants when someone falls down, no umbrella to turn inside out, and no fuzzy hair.

However, it was not long ago I declared that living in the snow was not for me. I try to think of the things that would come with the snow while walking kids to school to make this a fair fight; slipping on ice, trudging through the slush, bitter cold nose, people who don’t shovel their sidewalk making stroller going tough, and boots that would almost always get sucked off by the snow leading to a wet and cold foot.

Now I have considered stepping up my rain gear attire, however I am pretty certain this fashion statement would further drop my status at my son’s preschool not to mention the additional time it would add to actually getting us out the door.  Designer rain gear that actual works? I feel like snow attire is more acceptable. Let’s face it, rain shoes and rain pants can’t hold a candle to cute fur lined snow boots, slim fitting down jackets, fuzzy hats, gloves and let’s not forget scarfs.

It seems neither are ideal. Perhaps I can create a bubble over myself and the two kids that creates the perfect walking to school environment. Baring some amazing discovery in the next few days it seems my options are buying a luxury car or that luxury stroller with a rain shield.

Sick

Olin continues his bout of sickness. Ear infections and all. It has been over a month now. 10% of his life. Though his sickness hasn’t caused him to slow down his eating. Pretty much anything you put in front of him is consumed. He definitely out paces Sander. Hopefully he shakes this soon.

New Year’s Bread 2010

Today we cut the New Years bread. Thanks Papa D! Sander really wanted to get the quarter, and e was really close. It was right on the border between Kim’s piece and his. However, it went to Kim, who will have good luck this year. Bread turned out very good and Olin sucked down a whole piece.

Day after christmas

Our Christmas went well. We’ll post pics when we get a chance. Today was spent relaxing and a trip to the park. Right now we are playing cards and Nicole is taking long enough that I am able post this to the blog.
