Grandma and Grandpa Courtney came to visit Sander (oh and us too). On Saturday we all headed out in the Nano Van for its first day trip. We drove up to the top of Mount Hamilton where we visited the Lick Observatory. The observatory is at 4000 feet above sea level and there are a reported 365 turns to get there. None of us counted but we sure felt them all. We passed many cyclists on the way up and met two who made it to the top in about three hours. There were not too many people there when we first got there and we had an almost private tour of one of the telescope’s. Grandma made Sander laugh the hardest he ever has, which is captured in the picture above.
We headed down the other side of the hill to look for a fabled hamburger stand. We found The Junction, which was a cross between a rancher bar and a cyclists pit stop. Having both Bud on tap and a fridge full of Gatorade. Who could ask for more. We all enjoyed our hamburgers and continued on the winding road down the hill.
Our last stop on the trip was at a winery in Livermore where the road came out of the hills. We all tasted some great wines. It was our first time tasting in Livermore and we have to say it was quite enjoyable.
There were beautiful meadows and lots of oak trees and very few people on our trip. It was a great way to spend the day and see something new in the Bay Area.
